A History Of Support For Women’s Health

The Avon Foundation for Women, an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity, was founded in 1955 to improve the lives of women and their families. Now past the half-century milestone, the Avon Foundation brings this mission to life through the Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program and the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, which raises funds and awareness to advance breast cancer research and access to care, with a focus on the medically underserved.

Since the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade launched in 1992, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has raised and distributed nearly $1 Billion in awards to breast cancer programs around the world, supporting cutting-edge research to find a cure for or prevent breast cancer, as well as programs that enable patients to access quality care. Funds are raised through many programs, including AVON 39 – the Walk to End Breast Cancer, the sale of fundraising products by Avon independent Sales Representatives around the world, and other special events. Avon breast cancer programs in more than 50 countries have raised almost $1 billion for research and advancing access to care, with a focus on the medically underserved.

The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has implemented a comprehensive, need-based philanthropic strategy by supporting a national network of research, medical, social service, and community-based organizations that addresses the full range of issues associated with the disease. Avon Foundation beneficiaries range from leading cancer centers to community-based grassroots breast health programs in five areas: breast cancer awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research.

Avon Breast Cancer Crusade beneficiaries each make a unique contribution to patient care, breast cancer research, or to help reverse historic disparities in health care.
